Flying From Ireland To Asia Is About To Get A Whole Lot Easier

The world of Asia has never been a stone's throw away. To organise trips it's a connecting flight, a lay over, trains and buses. Now, an airline has announced direct flights from Ireland to Asia and the traveller in us couldn't be more thrilled.

The airline,  Cathay Pacific, will offer direct flights from Hong Kong to Dublin for four days a week. The Airbus A350-900 will fly from Dublin Airport on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

The airline announced details of the historic service today, alongside two new non-stop routes from Hong Kong to Brussels and Copenhagen. At the moment, return flights are retailing from €642 on cathaypacific.com.

The Irish Embassy estimates that over 4,000 Irish people live in Hong Kong and over 100 Irish businesses operate between here and Hong Kong.

According to the Independent, Hainan Airlines are in closing talks to secure a direct flight from Dublin to Beijing.

The new direct flight is expected to boost tourism between Ireland and China and see a growth in trade according to Tourism Minister Shane Ross:

This new service will help foster the growing trade, tourism, education and cultural links between Ireland, Hong Kong, 'Asia’s World City', and the rest of China.

The direct flight to Hong Kong is expected to take over 12 hours so wear your comfies.
