Travelling In Your Early 20s Vs Travelling In Your Late 20s

No matter what age you are, travelling is a great experience. However, when you transition from an early 20 something into a late 20 something you'll come to notice a few subtle and not so subtle differences:

1. Comfort

Early 20s:

Fourteen hour bus journeys with strangers sleeping on your shoulder? It's all part of the adventure! Speaking of strangers, before I accept an invitation to sleep on this fella's couch, do you reckon he has the look of a killer about him?

Late 20s:

You're in foul humour because you didn't get a room to yourself. And do they even fluff the pillows in this hotel?

2. Nights out

Early 20s:

Let's face it, the criteria for your travel destination is based solely on the quality of the night life. If you sacrifice a night out in favour of some sleep, you consider it a personal failure.

Late 20s:

Does the music in here have to be SO loud?

Even at that, it's dinner and drinks all the way and you mentally work your night plans around your day activities. 'I need to leave by 11am if I wanna be fresh for tomorrow's jungle trek.

3. Accommodation

Early 20s:

Hostels are great craic sure! Think of all the friends you get to make.

Late 20s:

The thoughts of sharing with strangers fills you with terror. No, no a nice hotel or a cosy Airbnb with a sea view is more up your street.

4. Alcohol

Early 20s:

Any deals going on Potcheen?

Late 20s:

You stick with the drinks you know and if you miss out on any day activities because you're hungover, you're KICKING YOURSELF.

5. Flexibility

Early 20s:

You rarely have to book 'holiday time' because you're either in college or between jobs and there is no way you'd let a job you hate stop you going on the piss for three weeks.

Late 20s:

It's responsibility this and commitment that. It took everything you have just to organise a few days away!

6. Spontaneity

Early 20s:

Words like 'schedule' and 'organise' aren't in your vocabulary. And what do you mean I should have bought malaria tablets?

Late 20s:

Your motto is: Fail to prepare, prepare to fail.

7. Packing style

Early 20s:

I'm going for six days so I'm going to need 95 outfits.

Late 20s:

Where are my comfortable walking shoes?

8. Goals

Early 20s:

I wanna get f***ed up.

Late 20s:

I need a proper rest.

9. Finances

Early 20s:

If I take the room with the bed bugs, is it cheaper?

Late 20s:

All inclusive - winning!
