11 Things You Should Never Feel Guilty About

There are a lot of things people should feel guilty about. Bullying, cheating, neglect, being a One Direction fan. The flip side of this, is that there are very many things you should never feel guilty about. To help you determine what is necessary guilt material and what is not, read on.

11) Enjoying Social Beverages

As long as your drinking habits haven't escalated into problem territory, then you order that Long Island Iced tea and you enjoy every drop of it. There's nothing wrong with sitting back with few beers and enjoying yourself with friends. If you are, however, steadily working your way through a bottle of Smirnoff, alone, on a Monday evening, then perhaps sit back and reassess.

10) Having A Healthy Social Life

There's nothing like a night out on the tiles to lift a bad mood. If, every so often, you like to kick back and enjoy some good, old fashioned twerking to the beats of Dirty Dancing, then power to you. Don't let the haters tell you otherwise.

9) Wanting To See The World

You should never feel guilty for wanting to get out there and see all that the world has to offer. There's so much to see and experience, that sitting at home and letting it pass you by IS something you should feel guilty about by the bucket load. So don't worry if someones tuts at the mention of your next trip abroad, they're surely just jealous.

8) Having Your Cake And Eating It Too

As any dietitian or person with a brain will tell you, the occasional treat in your diet is perfectly acceptable and normal. So as long as you're not digesting fifteen Smartie Cookies a day, I think that a slice of chocolate biscuit cake once in a blue moon, is quite alright.

7) Not Living In The Gym

What better way to ruin a perfect lazy day, then to see your housemate get all Lycra-d up to the max and take off in such a rush, you're pretty sure you just saw a jet stream follow them out the door. You think the fact that you own a pair of Asics speaks volumes alone. Yes, they may only get the occasional outing, but that way they're sure to enjoy it. Walking to the shops counts as exercise anyway, right?

6) Being A Proud Single Pringle

Just because the vast majority of your friends are coupled up doesn't mean you have to, despite their insistence to set you up with every Tom and dick headed Harry. The sense of freedom and independence you gain from being single is like nothing else and you should enjoy this joyous time of being selfish and your own person, without taking someone else's considerations into equation. Get out there, go on loads of dates, tinder it up and experience all that the single life has to offer.

5) Or Be Proud And Loved Up

Depending on which way your social circle is inclined, it'll be either totally loved up or totally single and so, if you are loved up and most of your friends are not, do not feel guilty. They may want to be out there scouting for talent, but that doesn't mean you should feel guilty for just wanting to be with that certain someone. Love beats drunken shifts in a nightclub any day, in your opinion.

4) Being Well Mannered

In today's fast paced, each for their own society, one would be forgiven for thinking that being polite has gone out of fashion. In fact, where the norm has become doors being slammed in your face and approaching a till with caution, a few thank you's and a smile is something to be oh, so proud of.

3) Not Being A Slave To Fashion

So you don't spend the vast majority of your wages in River Island? You don't look like a Ballymun version of Rihanna? WELL DONE. Congratulations to you. That is most definitely something to be proud of. Because in this celebrity influenced, appearance drenched society, not dressing just like everyone else, is never a thing to feel guilty about.

2) Having Odd Tastes

Have you inherited a love of all things retro from your parents? Do you fail to see the appeal of Walter White or does the Game of Thrones hysteria baffle you? Not to worry. You fly that odd flag high and proud. It's what separates and differs you. No guilt necessary.

1) Having A Stable Family Unit

Sadly, there are so many out there who can say they've never experienced this for themselves. Broken homes are becoming more and more common and it's only when you get out into the real world, that you become aware of how many people have had some awful childhood traumas buried away in their past. You should never feel guilty for being one of the lucky ones, just appreciative and grateful.

Alison decided to follow a sensible career route and chose to study Media. She happens to think of herself as a kind of Irish Beyonce after four Coronas, which usually results in her being deserted on the dance-floor by her loving friends. Her horrifically short attention span seeps into many aspects of her life, resulting in her half hearing important facts and hating people who walk at a leisurely pace.
