4 Of The Best 1 Hit Wonders

Here at College Times we decided that there’d be no better way to celebrate the birthday of hip-hop’s original white boy (Vanilla Ice, obviously), than with a look back at some of music’s other one hit wonders- Matt Carolan.
OMC – How Bizzare
This New Zealand duos jazzy hit was internationally successful in 1996. Sadly, any potential the two may have had was demolished two years after the release, as the two fell out over who deserved the royalties to the song.
Where are they now?
Lead singer Pauly Fuemana continued on under the OMC name, failing to release another album in the process and capping it all off by dying in 2010. A sad ending to a jolly song.
Len – Steal My Sunshine
In 1999, a Canadian pop group, furious with their arctic like climate took to the studio to seek some satisfaction for their misfortune. As fate would have it, that fortune came in the form of this summer hit. Take THAT southern hemisphere!
Where are they now?
Nothing else ever came from the band. However, you can find a more hip-hop heavy take on music from the Constanzo family members of Len with the album ‘Diary Of A Madman’, which was released in 2005.
House of Pain – Jump Around
“Pack it up, pack it in, let me begin”... Yes, it’s the song that every pasty teenager in Ireland ‘impressively’ knows the lyrics to.
You may still hear this cult classic pumping out in clubs from time to time to much ovation. Probably because people know it from Happy Gilmore.
Fact of The Day: Limp Bizkit’s DJ Lethal was and still is a member of this New York trio, when Limp Bizkit work doesn’t interfere, that is.
Where are they now?
The band reunited in 2010 and have been toured sporadically since then. You may have caught them at Oxegen or T In The Park in 2011.
Eiffel 65 – Blue (Dab a dee)
A blue house AND a blue window? Yes, you read that right.
The Italian trio released this huge hit in 1999 and even had a follow up single in ‘Move Your Body’, which I personally thought was (and still is) a classic tune.
However, they are best known for ‘Blue’ and the single peaked at number 6 in the charts. Nobody ever knew what it meant, or fully understood the words, but upon using my ‘English to Italian’ online translator, it appears that “Da be dee” loosely translates to “I fucking hate Fulham”, leading me to believe that the band were infact three die hard Chelsea fans. You heard it here first.
Where are they now?
You can catch the pensioners on their ‘New Planet Tour’ in a function room near you.
That's all for now everyone, we'll be sure to bring you more one hit wonders in the near future, but for now - Have a happy Halloween from everyone here at College Times and you can follow Matt on Twitter for more views and opinions.
