Classic Christmas Crackers

With Michael Bublé, Justin Bieber, Kelly Clarkson and Leona Lewis and more jumping on the bandwagon of releasing Christmas themed albums, we take a look at some of the festive tracks that still hijack our airways every year.

10.) Bing Crosby-White Christmas
While radio stations these days may prefer to bust out Bublé’s rendition of this classic, Bing’s
version has weathered through almost six different decades.

9.) Dean Martin-Let It Snow
At some point during the yearly Christmas shopping you’ve probably come across one of those
squeeze me snowmen teddy’s that move to this tune.

8.) Frank Sinatra-Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas
Christina Aguilera pretty much belted this song to death a number of years ago, (somebody
please limit the number of runs she can do per song!). Luckily Frank pulls of a far more subdued
rendition.

7.) Shakin’ Stevens-Merry Christmas Everyone
Still to this day the only song most people know of Shakin Stevens. Classic Christmas pop.

6.) Band Aid-Do They Know It’s Christmas
Probably one of the most successful charity singles ever made. Pity about the Band Aid 20
version of 2004.

5.) Mariah Carey-All I Want For Christmas Is You
Love it or hate, Carey co-wrote and produced one of the biggest selling Christmas tracks of all
time. That said, she can’t be forgiven for, not only allowing Bieber to cover the song for his
own Christmas album, but for dueting with him on it too.

4.) Slade-Merry Christmas Everybody
At one point during the 90’s, this song was featured in many Christmas advertisement’s, makes a
good backing track.

3.) John Lennon-Happy Christmas (War Is Over)
Ever the activist, John decided to send out a much more thought provoking Christmas message
than the typical pop fodder of the time.

2.) Wizzard-I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday
The sound of tills ringing throughout the song make it the perfect fit for shopping centres during
the busiest time of the year. While it may be overplayed you can’t hate it’s cheap and cheerful
sound.

1.) The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl-Fairytale Of New York
Only in Ireland could we produce a classic Christmas track that can go from sounding sincere
and heartfelt, to sounding like a married couple having a domestic down the local pub and back
again. But you have to love it all the same.

Bonus Track: Home Alone, not so much a chart topper, but one from the childhood memory book.
