Adele Pulled A Mean Girls At The Grammys And Broke Her Award

Adele Pulled A Mean Girls At The Grammys And Broke Her Award

Adele had another successful night at the Grammys last night, adding five awards to her collection of 10 from previous years. The 28-year-old Brit took home awards for Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Pop Solo Performance at the 59th annual ceremony in L.A on Sunday night, but the focus was on Adele's Grammy speech.

The main talking point of the evening came when Adele took to the stage to accept the coveted Album of the Year accolade for 25. Clearly shocked to have won in such a strong category, she struggled to hold back tears as she thanked her team before stating that Beyoncé deserved the award more for her “monumental” sixth studio album Lemonade.

As the camera panned to Bey mouthing her thanks from the crowd, Adele thanked the pregnant star for being “the artist of my life” and always inspiring her, as both artists openly wept.

Later, when still on stage, Adele channelled her inner Cady Heron from Mean Girls and broke her award in two so that she could share it with Beyoncé.

Fans on Twitter immediately noticed the likeness to the moment where Lindsay Lohan’s character broke her Spring Fling Queen crown into pieces to share with the other girls at her school.

Adele reiterated her love for Yoncé backstage saying, "I remember when I was 11 years old, I was with some girlfriends, and we were practicing a song to do at an assembly. I probably suggested the Spice Girls, and they said have you heard [Destiny’s Child’s] ‘No No No’? And I was like, ‘no, no, no.’"

"I remember how I felt hearing her voice. I fell in love immediately with her. The way I felt when I first heard ‘No No No’ was exactly the same as when I first heard Lemonade last year... The other artists who mean that much to me are all dead.”

We wonder if Beyoncé will return the favour if she wins the next one!
