Microsoft's premier racing series Forza Motorsport has drawn critical acclaim for its distinctive next-generation graphics and design, making the game the most realistic and advanced edition to date.

The game is hugely popular among racing and driving fans and Forza has taken advantage of Top Gear members Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond to further capture the imaginations of the fans.

Forza 5 opens by teasing the gamer with a test drive of the McLaren P1, the long-awaited successor to the McLaren F1, and immediately demonstrates the superior next-generation gameplay embedded in the game, which is made possible by Microsoft's new Xbox One.

Unlike its predecessor, Forza 5 forces the player work harder for their rewards by offering limited gift cars and making them build up a steady supply of tokens and credits before purchasing the higher-end cars.

Accumulating credits the old-fashioned way can be long and arduous but the game rewards you with bonuses for driving on the higher difficulties or in manual mode, as well as offering bonuses for staying loyal to your favourite manufacturers.

The Top Gear race track gives the gamer a break from the formal competitive racing style and offers fun competitions in a new format like never before.

The only downside for frequent players of the game is that different gameplay styles and techniques such as night races, dirt tracks and extreme weather systems are still missing from the series.

The number of tracks has also been cut to almost half those available in FOrza 4. This can bore the user by repeatedly competing on the same route, resulting in track fatigue. There is also just over 200 cars in Forza 5 in comparison to 500 in Forza 4. However other competitions such as drift races and monthly challenges are present to mix things up.

The actual driving in Forza 5 is distinct and unique to whichever car you are driving and on what settings. The gamer feels free to fine-tune their favourite cars to their own personal wants and needs.

The driving series has made some hefty cuts to allow for the growth of innovative next-generation graphics and gameplay, but the clarity of the gameplay and feel of the cars is of exceptional quality and Forza 5 deserves a big thumbs up. 4/5 stars for the latest in the Microsoft series.
