Why J Lo And Shakira Won't Receive A Performance Fee For The Super Bowl

The internet is still coming to grips with the Super Bowl halftime show starring Shakira and J-Lo. It was a high energy bootytastic, zumba-infused high energy performance from two of the biggest Latina pop stars in the world.

Amazingly though, the two pop icons will not receive a single cent from the NFL from the performance.

According to tradition, the NFL does not give artists a fee for the Super Bowl. It instead pays for all of the costs of the production - the stage, the lights, the fireworks, the dancers. The NFL believes that the performers will receive so much free advertising by going on stage on the biggest night of television for the year that it should take place of a fee.

And maybe they have a point - Spotify say that J Lo' streams have increased by 335% and Shakira's streams went up by 220% in the aftermath of the performance.

But it still seems remarkable that neither woman will receive a performance fee for all of that incredible work.
