The Oscars Made A Huge Mistake And It's All Leo's Fault

The Oscars Made A Huge Mistake And It's All Leo's Fault

The Oscars is that time of year when actors, directors, screenwriters, producers and designers all come together to give us mere mortals a dazzling display of golden awards and heartfelt speeches (an eye roll moment, I know). The award show moved fairly smoothly until the moment every award show dreads actually happened - the announcement of the wrong winner. GAS!

La La Land was the frontrunner of the night with 14 nominations tied with Titanic and All About Eve for the most nominated films of all time. Earlier in the night, Emma Stone took the Oscar for Best Actress. Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty announced La La Land as the winner of Best Picture and many were unsurprised considering the buzz around the films modern take on the classic musical genre.

Warren Beatty opened the envelope and paused for several moments before reading out La La Land. Three producers from La La Land spoke about their win before the mix-up was confirmed and it was actually Moonlight - a story about an African American gay man's life in a Miami ghetto.

Apparently Beatty was handed the wrong card and this picture below proves it. Beatty has assumed it was La La Land even though it had Emma Stones name above it as the film was nominated. Emma Stone later said in a press conference she didn't know how he got the envelope as she had the original card. The reality is there are two cards.

Good aul Leo Di Caprio is being blamed for the mix-up though with this one fan creating a conspiracy theory to what actually happened after he announced Emma Stone was the winner for Best Actress.

We see you Leo. We see you.
