Nine Monks: The Irish Tonic Wine With A Twist

Nine Monks: The Irish Tonic Wine With A Twist

It's a Thursday night. You've had a long week of lectures. You're going over to your mate's place for a drink with a few friends and you all crave something new and different.

You wouldn't think that Irish monks would have the solution to your conundrum, but Irish monks were well-rounded characters. They spoke many languages, they explored the world and set up the first distilleries and breweries in Ireland. (You'd need to be pretty innovative if you were living in a damp monastery without electricity or internet.)

Nine Monks Tonic Wine is inspired by this tradition and has just hit the shelves of supermarkets and off-licenses.

Tonic wine is a bit different from your average Merlot or Cab Sav with caffeine being one of the key ingredients. There are roughly the equivalent of five shots of espresso in a bottle of Nine Monks. It also has a much sweeter flavour than regular red wine, with a full bodied taste and hints of blackcurrant and cherry.
