One Direction Outsold....By Garth Brooks

One Direction who? Garth Brooks has done what some thought would be impossible, by outselling the massively popular boy band that will see him perform a three night stint in Croke Park this summer. The country music legend, who hasn’t been to Irish shores in almost 20 years, is returning in what is billed to be his comeback special, after bowing out of the spotlight when he officially “retired” in 2004.

I use the term retired lightly. While the singer hasn't’t toured since the beginning of the millennium, he has performed intermittently throughout the years, and spent the last four years in residency in Las Vegas. After Brooks announced his intentions to return to touring there was massive anticipation from Irish fans to see him return to Croke Park. The singer officially announced his Irish dates during a press conference at the historical football stadium mere weeks before tickets went on-sale.

The first two shows sold out in a matter of minutes, shifting more than 170,000 tickets, sending fanatical fans into a frenzy to try and snap up anything they could get. However all hope wasn’t lost when Ticketmaster announced a third date, going on sale at 9:30, but still many fans were left disappointed.

For those who managed to snatch up some tickets for the gig it’s sure to leave a lasting impression, much like Garth’s shows in 1997. For those who won’t be able to attend this summer, rumours are circulating that the singer may return later in the year, should the comeback prove successful. But like all rumours, take it with a pinch of salt.
