ITT Student Needs Your Help After Bizarre Accident In Thailand

An accident has happened in Thailand that has left one ITT student in a Thai hospital.  Ciara Twomey, from Bantry and studying general nursing in the Institute of Technology Tralee, was in Thailand for three days when the accident happened.

Ciara and friends were three days into their trip when an accident happened with a quad bike which resulted in a severe injury. Ciara is recovering in a "remote Thailand hospital" from eye surgery and will need further reconstructive surgery.

Her brother Nick told Cork’s 96FM that Ciara has lost her sight in her left eye after the accident:

Her sight is lost for now in her left eye. We have no idea for sure if it will come back or if it is gone. Hopefully the next operation will take place in Ireland. I spoke to Ciara yesterday and she sounded in a lot of pain and she said it is so hard for her to understand what they are trying to do because they don’t speak English. They are also not giving her enough painkillers.

Fundraising for Ciara’s care has already begun with a FundandSeek account now set up to help with Ciara's care. A friend of Ciara's is urgently asking for people to help with raise funds to help get Ciara home:

This is a difficult, expensive and challenging road ahead for Ciara. We urgently need to raise funds to assist in Ciara’s care, travel and recovery.Ciara is a beautiful kind young girl with her whole life ahead of her... we are devastated that this has happened to our girl. Please if you can assist in any small way it would be greatly appreciated by us her family, and friends...help us get Ciara safely home.

Nick told 96FM that it depends on money and health as to when Ciara can travel home.

Nearly 30,000 has been raised so far for Ciara's medical expenses, care and travel with the target set for €150,000. If you'd like to help Ciara here is the link to donate.
