Good news for anyone who feels like their college isn’t seeing a lot of love; the government’s National Development Plan has pledged to provide nearly three billion euro to support third level institutions between 2021 and 2025. Ministers’ Simon Harris and Niall Collins have welcomed the news, with Minister Collins saying that this funding will "enable Ireland to flourish as an economy and society".
The total investment per year in third level universities will grow 30% by 2025, marking an increase from €500 million euro annually to €625 million. According to the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, the objective of this increase in capital is "to support a knowledge-based, resilient and innovative society and economy, in which all citizens have the opportunity to reach their full potential". So if you’ve been finding yourself in ancient tutorial rooms without a hint of wifi, this might be the news you needed to hear.
