Hippie Hippie Shake - 5 Yummy Smoothie Recipes

Amy Baudon

The Smoothie...

Smoothies have been around a long time. A time before you and I were even born. In fact, they date right back to the middle of 1960's.  Aaaah the 1960's...a decade very close to my heart and even closer to the inner bohemian in me.

This Flower Power culture commends a time, when vegetarianism was "on trend" and TV dinners were not. These so called "Hippies" came up with a master plan...the smoothie!  They would drink fruit juice drinks like there was no tomorrow! Little did they know that their little drink revelations, would still be going strong today....?

Decade after decade, these Smoothies have become increasingly popular. With their fortified health benefits and commercial "on the go" appeal.

And sure why not? I mean what's not to love about a smoothie? It's Healthy, quick, tasty, filling and totally guilt free!

Also, the sky's the limit when it comes to its contents. You can literally throw anything into it. Use up pieces of fruit and veg that are heading towards their expiration date.  Some of my best combos have been when I've just been using up the leftovers in the bottom of my fridge. Basically the rules are, there are no rules!

So get experimenting! And remember mid-smoothie, to sing a couple of versus' of....."for goodness sake....I got the hippie hippie shake".....in memory? No? Just me then?
