Riots have broken out in the popular J1 destination, Huntington Beach. We heard from a couple of UCD J1 students who said it initially started with a fight in a crowd and then a rampage started, people were pushing over porta loos, damaging cars and street signs and throwing punches all over the place. The police then started to throw tear gas which dispersed the crowd at around 9pm.
None of the Irish J1ers reported injury but said it was a disappointing end to a great surf competition.
