MK Has Landed

We’re going to start this piece off with a musical lesson. Three songs. Take a listen to each of them once, all the way through.

Now try and go ten minutes without listening again (if you manage to abstain you officially have no soul!). Ok, now that we’re on the same page we can proceed with our preview of what is set to be an incredible weekend for house lovers in Ireland. Marc Kinchen is somewhat of a legend in house circles. Fondly referred to as MK, the Detroit native has shaped the house music scene massively over the past 20 years. His initial successes with the likes of Burning and Always propelled him to the higher echelons of house in just a few short years. Strangely despite his early successes MK then took a prolonged break from the game producing successful albums for the likes of Will Smith and Pitbull.

Over the last two years the incredibly talented Kinchen has once more returned to the realms of house, churning out some of the most addictive groovers known to man including standout remixes for the likes of Storm Queen, Lana Del Rey and Gui Boratto. Combine that with a host of tasty originals (Electricity and Goodnight Moon to name but two) and it’s easy to see why his rise back to the top has been near unstoppable. Having dominated clubs all over the White Isle this summer (his stunning remix of Storm Queen Look Right Through was unavoidable over there) he is now one of the most in demand men in dance.

This week sees Kinchen return to our fair isle for four shows in the space of four days. Three of these take place under the newly established JACK brand (Thursday in The Pavilion Cork, Friday in the Button Factory and Sunday in The Village) with the Saturdayshow hosted by Thompsons in Belfast. Incredibly all three JACK shows are fully soldout (meaning the guts of 2500 people will see MK showcase his productions over the next few days). It seems man enjoys an almost cult following in Ireland with tickets going for almost €100 on some online portals. Its not just all one way traffic however with MK himself professing his excitement numerous times to be back in Ireland for an extended sting. All the hype and anticipating serves to make these shows some of the biggest to hit the capital in years. If you’ve managed to secure yourself a ticket, you’re in for a wild ride!
