Rolling Back The Years: August 1991

Metallica release the biggest selling album of their career, and one of the biggest selling albums of all time, the self-titled Metallica. The album has since gone on to sell over 30 million copies worldwide, producing hit songs such as "Nothing Else Matters" and "Enter Sandman".

Seattle grunge band Pearl Jam also release their biggest and most famous record, Ten. Though the album is slow to sell, it eventually goes on to reach No. 2 on the Billboard Charts the following year.

Hip Hop artist Dr. Dre is sentenced to 24 months of probation after he beat up a woman in night club in West Hollywood.

The lyrical mastermind behind much of Manchurian band Oasis’ success, Noel Gallagher, decides to join the band formed by his younger brother Liam. While this would prove to be the winning element of the band's success, many arguments, disagreements and even fist fights between the Gallagher brothers would eventually see the group disband after becoming one of Britain's most successful rock bands.

The most successful musical movie ever made in Ireland, The Commitments was released, helping to launch the career of two future Irish music stars, The Frames' lead singer and Academy Award winner Glen Hansard and Andrea Corr who would go on to front The Corrs along with her siblings.

Bryan Adams continues his reign at the top of the music charts with his ballad "Everything I Do (I Do It For You)". The single would spend a record breaking 16 weeks at the top of the charts.
