Well God Almighty! The Father Ted Musical Is On The Way

I had to pinch myself when I read this one to make sure I wasn't dreaming things into reality, yesterday it was the Jägermeister Easter Egg, today I hear a Father Ted Musical is in the works. It's as if some crafty marketer is creating products based on my thoughts. I pinched myself, it hurt and I can confirm that these are a reality.

Father Ted co-creator Graham Linehan took to his Twitter account to share the first mini performance of Pope Ted- The Father Ted Musical. Taking part in this mini- performance was series co-writer Arthur Mathews, frontman of The Divine Comedy and composer of the Father Ted theme music Neil Hannon and actor, comedian and writer Paul Woodfull.

We first heard of mutterings of a Father Ted musical back in April of 2017 when Graham Linehan shared his vision in an interview. In June of last year, Linehan confirmed that the script for ‘Pope Ted—The Father Ted Musical’ was complete and described it as the "real final episode of Father Ted".

So what can we expect from Father Ted the Musical? In an interview with BBC News Linehan said "I didn't want to do anything like this until the right idea came along, and when Trump won and Corbyn won I kind of thought, 'maybe Ted has a chance'.

The storyline will see Father Ted move from Craggy Island to the Vatican as he takes on the role of Pope, a big leap for a priest that was banished to the remote island for money resting in his account. Linehan acknowledges this leap stating "I thought it wouldn't be too much of a stretch. Obviously we're pulling some shenanigans to get him into that position, but I think the shenanigans are entertaining enough that people won't mind."

What a time to be alive! Can't wait for the shenanigans.
