9 Things That People Who Grew Up In A Housing Estate In Ireland Will Understand

Ah, the Irish housing estate. It was a place where gangs were formed, water fights were had and extreme rivalry flourished.

There are a few aspects of growing up in a housing estate that ring true to the ones who were right there in the action. Summers were spent shifting lads behind walls, winters were spent playing curbs and no matter what, every single housing estate despised every one but their own.

If you were lucky enough to grow up in a housing estate, you'll remember these points like they were yesterday.

1. There was a serious rivalry with the other gang that lived on your road

2. Every time the tiniest bit of sun came out an epic water fight took place

3. If you went on to a new road an introductory game of I.R.A. would take place to sort out who was hard

4. Everyone got their first shift behind the same wall

5. You attempted to smoke rolled up paper at least once

6. You could play curbs with your eyes closed

7. The week after Christmas would be spent making people jealous of your new roller blades, bike and/or scooter

8. Going to the local shop to buy bags of sweets was a mandatory activity

9. Finally, if you went to a new estate you would automatically be the lowest member of the food chain
