ABBA are truly one of the greatest bands to have emerged in the 20th century. How do I know this you ask? Well, aside from the fact that their songs remain as enduringly popular as ever, longevity is not the ultimate litmus test of a group's prowess. No, ABBA's place was cemented near the top of the annals of music history by the fact that they passed a far sterner and indeed, far rarer, test; people are still entirely accepting of their music despite the fact that Pierce Brosnan tried to obliterate the prospect of any of us remaining fans by doing their songs with his face. If their legacy can survive Pierce Brosnan straddling the edge of a cliff and booming out harrowingly volumous renditions of some of their classics to a presumably, bemused local Greek population, then they are truly one of the all-time greats.
Now, the good news has reached our ears/eyes/whichever sense you prefer to receive news through, that ABBA will be releasing new music for the first time in 35 years. They made the announcement on an Instagram post.
What a time to be alive.
