It must be a very lonely life being a pineapple. People largely react to your existence with bewilderment, saying that despite the succulent rewards you contain within, your prickly exterior is too immediately off-putting, too tricky to navigate. When you do try and break out of your comfort zone, and get involved in, say, a pizza, families are torn asunder furiously arguing over whether you ought be there - for the record, you very much don't. If I had to choose the ending scene of a movie that perfectly encapsulates the experience of what it must be like to be a pineapple - which I am demanded to do far too often - then it'd be that bit at the end of The Incredible Hulk where he realises he can never truly fit in with society and walks slowly into the horizon, dufflebag over his shoulder, forced into a life of isolation.
Well, Mór Irish Gin, have finally found the true calling of this much maligned fruit. They have now added pineapples to the pantheon of fruit such as grapes, lemons and apples, that serve the greatest purpose of all; having their bodies pulped and turned into high-strength liquors.
Mór Irish Gin will be releasing a new pineapple gin that is set to be available in stores from November 9. Inspired by the success of their previous experiments with creating exotic gins, including their wild berry gin, they decided to try get pineapples in on the action.
They say that "Although Pineapple is the main ingredient there is also lemongrass, bergamot orange and lime which have been carefully selected to compliment each other. Juniper still makes an appearance for the classic gin drinkers but let's just say that this particular gin is a little more of a Caribbean / Irish party flavour!"
It will also apparently work well with far more mixers than just tonic water. It will be available for a limited run in O'Briens, The Celtic Whiskey Shop and selected bars and restaurants.
I will wager that you have heard no news more important than this today, and that reflects poorly on all of us.
