American Gods Is Weird AF But Is Definitely Your Next Must-Watch TV Show

American Gods ... What the hell is going on and why the hell am I so engrossed!?

If you haven't heard of it, Starz' new hit tv show is only three episodes into its first season but is already captivating audiences across the globe on Amazon Prime. It stars Ricky Whittle - of Hollyoaks and Dream Team fame - as Shadow Moon, an American who finds himself caught up in a war he didn't realise was happening.

Based on Neil Gaiman's award-winning novel of the same name, it features an all-star cast that includes Ian McShane, Crispin Glover, Gillian Anderson, Pablo Schreiber and your man who plays John Abruzzi in Prison Break.

If you want to stay completely spoiler free stop reading any further but to be honest, you probably need to know the basic premise to have any hope of making sense of what the hell in going in the show. The war we mentioned is a war between the Gods; The Old Gods, brought to the US by immigrants across 100s of years vs. The New Gods, such as the God of globalisation and the God of technology.

Ian McShane's character, Mr Wednesday, represents Odin, an old Norse God many of you may know as Thor's father. He offers Shadow Moon as job as his bodyguard after Moon is released from prison, and so begins the whole narrative.

The rest I'll leave to you to unravel but it goes without saying that the story is quite a salient one given the crossroads society seems to find itself at. It's also brilliantly directed and while you will spend most of your time in the Homer Simpson watching Twin Peaks position, you will very quickly become hooked to the batshit crazy storyline.

The show has already been renewed for a second season and currently boasts a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
