Cars give you freedom to travel quickly, shelter and adds a little bit of a cool factor to you, at least until the rest of your friends get their own shitty ones. Until then though, you won't be caught walking anywhere and you get to vent your pent up frustration in the medium of road rage which is good for everybody....except for the people in the car with you while you scream "INDICATORS!!!!!!"
Pro:
You can go wherever you want, at any time. No more waiting for your parents to drive you somewhere or have to do that shitty slog through the cold and rain.
Con:
You're the only one that can drive so of course when they need to get somewhere they're gonna ask you first before they even consider walking. Lazy shits.
Pro:
For said trips they'll usually offer to pay for your petrol, even if it's only the few dollah but more often than not they'll give you more than you used, especially if you've a good engine.
Con:
Someone needs a lift that'll take a while and it won't be cheap... but they haven't got money to pay for petrol. You help your friend of course but the promise they made of paying you back when you have money is clearly not going to happen.
Pro:
Road trips are the classic adventure. You don't need to leave the country to get away from everything so when you get a bit of free time you can fuck off to the other end of the country with no worries.
Con:
Obviously, you have to drive the whole way and what non drivers don't understand is that driving can be really tiring. You have to be alert constantly, your foot is pretty much in the same uncomfortable angle on the pedal for however many hours you're driving and if you get lost it's usually all your fault, unless you have a person in charge of the directions.
Pro:
Car sex is always an option when you're about to get lucky but there's nowhere you two can go.
Con:
You go to a party and you're the designated driver all night. When the party finds out they'll try get you to collect everyone that hasn't arrived yet, head to the liquor store or to drop them down to whichever bar they're going to.
Pro:
You're in control when you're all in the car. You get to decide when you all stop, where you go and unlimited veto's on the playlist.
Con:
Non-drivers just don't get that you need to pay attention to the road, if you aren't used to driving through country lanes or through a city you really need to concentrate on where you're going and also not crashing the fucking car. It's a lot harder to do when you have people asking you a bunch of questions.
Pro:
You never have to wait for a bus or a train. You can go whenever you want instead of waiting to pack into public transport with a bunch of strangers. There's still traffic to deal with but you have your own space while you're stuck there instead of rubbing shoulders with the Sweaty Giant while he blares techno from his earphones.
Con:
That 4 a.m. drunken call from your friend asking you to drop them home. They only live ten minutes away from where they are but to drunk them the may as well be crossing continents.
