7 Milk Alternatives If You're Going Dairy-Free

Whether it's for your health, an intolerance or you're going vegan there are tonnes of reasons to go dairy-free.

However, us Irish have a love affair with milk in so many different ways. From pouring it in our beloved tea to using it in all types of cooking, it may seem hard to give up.

These days, there are so many different alternatives on the market that can make the transition super-easy, while not compromising on taste.

1. Almond milk

This is my personal favourite and in recent times has become widely available. Unsweetened almond milk has a plain, creamy flavour and is great for cooking.

2. Coconut milk

Coconut milk is a super creamy, naturally sweet alternative. It works the best in sweet recipes or as a milk alternative for your tea.

3. Soya milk

This super-versatile milk can be used to make soya cream which you can use as an alternative to single cream. Dollop on cakes, apple pie or use in more savoury dishes.

4. Cashew milk

This naturally sweet milk is great to use on porridge as it adds a sweet, nutty flavour.

5. Oat milk

This milk goes amazingly with all types of coffee, it adds a creaminess and has a subtle sweet flavour.

6. Rice milk

Similar to oat milk, this fibre-rich alternative adds a creaminess and goes great in coffee and porridge.

7. Finally...hemp milk

This milk is made by blending cannabis seeds and water. However, it lacks the element that makes you high so no need to worry. The milk is rich in Omega-3 and is a good source of it for vegans. The milk has a very bland flavour so it goes great in savoury dishes.
