We students like to drink a lot.
We students are also poor, Much. We have much much poorness and much much thirst for alcohol. The problem arises when in Dunnes with a tenner in your pocket to last the week. Yes, you could buy pasta, and sauce, rice and beans and other cheap food fare.. but then you see the booze. Booze is much more appealing and promises more and more happiness.
So you buy the booze and knock it back, but then you get yourself in a complete mess as it all goes straight to your head and you haven't eaten since breakfast. You throw up all over the taxi, score mingin Steven and drunk dial.
You need to line your stomach. You know this to be true. What to do when you have no money.. Well let this be your guide:
Ideal things to line your stomach with when you are poor include:
13) Spagetti hoops on toast
Delicious and possibly the most normal of the potential things you could eat.
12) Centra reduced Ben and Jerrys.
€3 in UCD. Go for it.
11) Chicken Fillet Roll
€1.99. You can't go wrong.
10) Beans
Cheap, 29c in Lidl.
Go luxury with Heinz for luxury but you don't want to be spoiling yourself now really. You may fart a lot… that's the downside.
9) Pot Noodle/Koka
20 cent noodles are the student godsend. If you get sick it will be very very ugly. Have 2 packets and hope for extra lining. Maybe 3? The man below has a strong night of drinking ahead of him.
8) Cotton Wool
Some people don't like eating actual food. There's a rumor in CT Towers that you actually can eat cotton wool.
7) Bowl of porridge
Again the old Flavanans won't let you down. Get a decent bowl of porridge into you. Go on, have two on the big nights.
6) Loaf of Brown Bread.
Slathered with 50c jam. Toast it if you're feeling fancy.
5) Box of Dunnes Stores Value Cornflakes
Value cornflakes, washed down with buckets of milk. You will bloat massively but that bloat is just stretching your stomach for drinking.
4) Makrel/ Tuna
55 cent in Lidl. Tesco own brand 89c.
3) Rice cakes and cheese triangles.
For under €2 consider this a gourmet meal.
2) Bag of Tesco Donuts.
Reduced to 40c at the end of the day. They will fill you up deliciously.
1) Quinoa -
This is the hipster option. It's not even that cheap but real hipsters tend to just pretend they don't have money.
