The 9 Worst Habits Of Irish People When They're A Hotel Guest

We've all been there. It's the last day of the holiday and your hotel room looks like an IKEA wardrobe unassembled - a nightmare. Your friend, three drinks Jenine, has binged herself silly on the happy hour menu and ruined the posh hotel carpet. Your other friend, let's call her Josephine, is trying to shove every toiletry and towel into her already bulging bag.

You contemplate ditching everyone at the hotel and saving your own skin but you're not about that life. You're going to walk out with these friends because you've fallen into this bucket of shame together.  The Irish Times asked hotel staff across Ireland what the worst habits guests have when they stay in hotels and you and your mates might be guilty of some of these:

Clicking your fingers at staff

If you're clicking your fingers at anyone at anytime you deserve this...

Damaging sheets with hair dye, fake tan or makeup

No matter how trashed you are there's always that fundamental rule: wash your make up off. Apparently, one Dublin hotelier said no one questions why they received charges: “No one ever complains. They usually have a good idea of why.”

Leaving souvenirs of your personal hygiene behind

Toe nail clippings and nose hairs are offensive. We've all the heard the horrors of what people leave when they check out and that includes blood.

Nicking food from the breakfast buffet for your hotel room

It's a difficult one to own up to but we've all nicked a croissant or apple from the breakfast table for later. It's a right of passage when you're getting a free meal.

Being too picky

"Yeah, I can't actually use that brand of hairdryer!" - Pure notions.

Commando in the corridors

Urinating and stripping in hotel hallways is a common feature. Apparently, a lot of couples love hooking up at the fire escape. Although we appreciate their concern for health and safety, letting it all hang out has its time and place. Be kind to your neighbours.

Smoking in your bedroom

No matter what how you try to mask the smell, the smell of Benson and Hedges lingers. One Kerry hotelier revealed: “We have found condoms wrapped around fire alarms to stop them detecting smoke, and not just cigarette smoke".

The early check in late check out

We're all guilty, especially Jenine: "Quick! Get up. We have to check out in ten minutes" is a common quote the morning you have to check out of some hotel or apartment. In fairness, the staff is trying to prepare the room for the next guest. You deserve the fine. There's nothing worse than arriving four hours early to hotel check in and they can't even take your bags.

Leaving embarrassing items behind

Sex toys should not be left on the bedside locker. Recycle wisely.

Next time you're staying in a hotel think of the people who have to clean your mess up afterwards! Be sound. Although, you should always enjoy the breakfast buffet.
