The Rent Vent: Here's A Guaranteed Way To Find Somewhere To Rent In Dublin

Here at CollegeTimes, we want to start helping our readers that little bit more. So we decided to start this series to help you navigate the enigma that's student housing in Dublin. It can be frustrating finding somewhere to live with the demand for renting at an all time high.

If you've been looking for a while, or are planning on moving to Dublin in the near future, we've talked to an expert from Daft.ie, to help you navigate the world of renting in Dublin. Martin Clancy gave us some top tips on the best way to secure somewhere to live.

1. Where are the most popular areas for students to rent in Dublin?

All areas prove popular with students but it does come down to budget and location for most people. We do have a student accommodation section on Daft.ie, that allows students to select the college they are attending to see a list of properties currently available in that area: www.daft.ie/student-accommodation

2. What's the best way to secure somewhere to rent?

Starting your search as soon as possible is key. The rental market at the moment is very busy and demand for places to rent is very high. It’s a good idea to make a short list of areas that you are interested in renting in and to start contacting the landlords who are advertising the properties on Daft.

3. What's the best day to go to viewings?

With the market the way it currently is, the sooner the better! Generally, a landlord will suggest a day they are holding viewings and the best advice would be to get there early, especially if it is an open viewing and there is lots of interest.

4. Advice on someone looking to rent for the first time?

Budget is key. It’s also worth remembering that outside of your rent you will also have utility bills, tv, broadband etc. On Daft, you can also search for properties that are on a particular transport route, so in Dublin, for instance, you can search for properties inside a certain price range that are close to the Luas. In December we launched our Luas & DART stop-by-stop maps, which are a handy visual guide for the average rents by each station:http://www.daft.ie/blog/daft-ie-dart-luas-rental-map-stop/ Likewise, you can also view sharing properties and filter those by transport route also.

Stay tuned next week, when we talk to an expert on how to budget for rent.
