Acquittal Verdict Reached In Trial Of Ibrahim Halawa

A verdict in the trial of Ibrahim Halawa has finally been reached in Cairo today, where he has been acquitted of all charges relating to his arrest four years ago.

21-year-old Halawa was arrested during protests against the removal from power of President Mohammed Morsi in 2013. His mass trial, alongside nearly 500 other defendants, had been delayed 28 times before a verdict was finally reached today.

Amnest International had been campaiging for Halawa's release and upon hearing the news, Colm O'Gorman tweeted his delight.
