Good Tidings As Dublin School Tackles The Homeless Crisis Tonight

Belvedere College are out in full force on the streets of Dublin tonight, as the Annual Sleep-Out kicks off with a bang.

SleepOut17, in aid of Focus Ireland, HomeAgain and Peter McVerry, will take place outside Bank of Ireland, College Green and the GPO, O'Connell Street, Dublin.

Those taking part in the annual Sleep-out charity event include over 100 students, teachers, past pupils and parents.

In its 34th year, the event attempts to take on the homeless crisis that has dominated media headlines, particularly in the last year.

Last year, the Sleep-Out raised a whopping €225,021.61 for homelessness, an amazing achievement for everyone involved. No doubt, organisers are hoping the number will be matched or even surpassed this year.

The SleepOutSelfie campaign, got passers-by and celebrities involved by sharing selfies of themselves and others online while holding a #SleepOut16 sign. In all, social media saw an influx of 2,000 selfies supporting the event. A similar effort is taking place this year which was launched by Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg.

If you'd like to show your support, donations can be made on the street during the event and also online at any time on the official website.

The Belvedere College Annual Sleep-Out will take place through 22 to 24 December.
