UCC Warns Students To Call Gardaí If An 'X' Is Marked On Their House

As Christmas exams wrap up and students prepare to head home for the holidays, an Irish University has issued a warning over potential burglaries.

UCC posted a message on their Facebook page, confirming that they have received reports of houses in the area surrounding the University being marked with an 'X.' The symbol denotes a sinister meaning - it serves as a reminder people are targeting unoccupied homes to burgle in the run-up to Christmas.

The University goes on to write that people should be mindful and raise the alarm should they see an X on their own house or someone else's. The message reads:

We have received reports of houses in the area surrounding UCC being marked with an 'X'. This 'X' is to remind these people of houses that they could potentially rob during the Christmas period when students have gone home. Please if you see an 'X' on your house or on a different house tell the home owner and the Gardaí!

No doubt, student's thoughts are occupied with getting home for the Christmas celebrations but it's important that they're mindful and report any suspicious activity in the area to Gardaí.
