Over the past seven years there has been a big shift in academic performance across schools in Ireland.
Although what you get in your Leaving Cert really doesn't matter once you get into college, it's important for the entrance process. It looks like fee-paying schools still have the highest percentage of students heading to third level colleges and institutes, and a lot of these are the best secondary school's Ireland have to offer going forward.
According to research done by the Independent, 'students from the fee-paying sector accounted for 1,057 new entrants to UCD last year - more than any other university or institute of technology.' 621 went to Trinity, 335 to University College Cork and 545 to DIT.
What may surprise a few people is that according to The Sunday Independent, out of 700 schools only six have managed to maintain a 100% record of sending students to college. The best performing school according to The Sunday Times, are as follows;
1. Glenstal Abbey, Limerick
2. Presentation Brothers College, Cork
3. Mount Anville School, Dublin
