Christmas Transport Schedules You Need To Know About

You may find yourself enjoying the odd drink or two over the Christmas period and may need to rely on public transport to get you home.

Many public transport services have announced late-night transport including buses, trains and trams over Christmas. Services such as Bus Éireann, Dublin Bus, Luas and Iarnród Eireann have announced their Christmas transport schedules running right up until Christmas day and the period after.

We've gathered all the timetables so you can go out and have fun and get home safe this Christmas.

Luas:

The Red Line will operate a night service between 1am and 3 am on weekends leading up to Christmas.

The Green Line will operate from 1am to 3.30am leading up the Christmas.

Luas services will stop on Christmas Eve at 8pm, and will return with a Sunday schedule on St Stephen’s Day at 9am.

 

Dublin Bus:

Nitelink services will continue to run up until Christmas eve.

 

Bus Éireann:

Bus Éireann will operate extra late night services from Dublin to Balbriggan, Drogheda, Ratoath, Dunshaughlin, Navan, Naas, Newbridge, Sallins and Clane over the Christmas period.

In Cork, Bus Éireann will provide late night services in the run-up to Christmas from Cork city to Carrigaline, Ballincollig, Midleton and Bandon on the days of 16, 17, 22 and 23 December.

Services in Cork, Galway and Limerick will operate on a Sunday timetable on the 26 December with limited services in Waterford city.

The 1am bus to Sligo and Donegal has been cancelled as well as the 1.45am bus to Letterkenny.

Normal weekday services will resume between 28 and 30 December.

New Year’s Eve services will run on a Saturday timetable and New Year’s Day will operate on a Sunday timetable. A Sunday timetable with revisions will also run on 2 January.

Iarnród Éireann:

On Christmas eve normal Intercity, Dart and Dublin commuter trains will run until 9pm and Cork commuter trains until 7pm.

There will no services on Christmas Day and Stephen's Day. Intercity services will return as normal on 27 December and a Saturday timetable will run on Dart and Dublin commuter trains. Cork commuter trains will run an hourly service between Cork and Cobh and between Cork and Midleton.

From 28-30 December regular service will be available on the Intercity and Heuston commuter rails, and a Saturday timetable will run on the Dart, Northern and Maynooth/M3 commuter line and the Cork commuter line.

There will be eight late night services operating on New Year’s Eve between 1.20am and 2.50am leaving Pearse and Connolly stations. There will also be a late night DART service along the Dundalk and Maynooth lines after Dublin’s New Year’s Eve celebrations.

On New Year’s Day, a Saturday timetable will be running on the intercity services and a Sunday timetable will be in place on the Dart, Dublin and Cork commuters lines.

Most Iarnród Éireann services will return with a few minor changes on 2 January, before resuming normally on 3 January.
