Some People Think This Comedian Took It Too Far At A Galway Comedy Gig

Many people at a comedy gig at The King’s Head in Galway have complained about the offensive language used by the MC throughout the show.

The show called 'Show Me The Funny' was held by MC and event organiser Gerry Mallon, who made a number of insulting remarks about contestants and audience members throughout the show. The event itself is held annually and is sponsored by Bulmers and runs alongside Electric Picnic. Lucky winners get a spot on the Comedy main stage in September.

According to The Journal.ie, Mallon used the word 'n***er' during a story, and when a female contestant was leaving the stage commented that she had 'nice tits.' Not only that, but Mallon also called hockey a 'f*g sport', while interacting with an audience member.

Mallon spoke to The Journal.ie, saying;

'Sure a sentence in cold print outside of a comedy situation will not read well if it’s not put into the context in which it was said. Comedy is a subjective thing, but context is everything, in my and most people’s opinion.'
'If I inadvertently offended anyone, then I apologise.'
Bulmers have spoken about the event and have commented,

'we do take this issue very seriously and will take steps, such as closer collaboration with the organisers and the selection of acts, to help ensure that offensive or inflammatory language is not used at future events that we sponsor.'
Compared to comedians like Frankie Boyle for example, what Mallon said could be seen as very tame. Do you think what Mallon said can be justified as a 'had to be there moment' or do you think he took it too far with his comments?
