Ireland's Most Popular Tourist Attraction Has Been Revealed
The world's fondness for Guinness has been confirmed as the Guinness Storehouse has been named as Ireland's most popular tourist destination. The Dublin 8 brewery has welcomed over 1.7 million visitors through it's doors in 2017 which sees an increase of 1.5 million from 2016.
Guinness Storehouse managing director Paul Carty spoke of the company's continued success as well as their plans to expand the St. James' Gate location:

As well as welcoming more than 1.7 million visitors through our doors we also announced details of a €16 million expansion plan which will see the iconic Gravity Bar double in size.

Construction is expected to begin on the Guinness Storehouse Hub this year, which will be located opposite the storehouse building and will be used as a retail space, an employee hub and also to house the Guinness archives.

In addition to the proposed hub, Diageo have announced plans to build a new whiskey distillery and to develop an urban quarter at the site of the Guinness brewery.

Our aim is to position Ireland and the Guinness Storehouse as a year-round, ‘must visit’ destination and to ensure that the contribution of overseas tourism to the economy continues to expand.

We are excited to begin the next chapter of the Guinness Storehouse and welcome even more visitors in 2018. We are very proud of the success in 2017 and of the commitment of our own team at the Guinness Storehouse and all those across the industry who work hard to promote Dublin and Ireland as a world-class destination.

The Guinness Storehouse also released an independently-conducted survey of over 500 visitors which found that 34% said the attraction was key in their decision to visit Ireland. The report states that this translates to an economic contribution of €361.2 million a year.
