Not A Joke: An 8 Year Old Drove Himself To McDonald's For A Cheeseburger

We all know kids love a happy meal from Maccy D's but this kid might love them at the detriment to his own life. A parent's worst nightmare actually happened when an 8-year-old boy from Ohio used YouTube videos to learn how to drive his dad's van last Sunday night.

Policeman Jacob Koehler responded to the restaurant when the police department received several reports of a boy driving a van through the downtown area - gas!  The Weirton Daily Times reported that witnesses told Koehler that the boy obeyed all traffic laws even stopping at red lights and he waited for traffic to pass before making the left turn into the McDonald’s carpark.

The McDonald's staff thought they were being pranked when he pulled up to the drive-thru to buy his cheeseburger. “The workers thought that the parents were in the back, but obviously they weren’t,” Koehler said. The only other person in the car was the boy's 4-year-old sister. Talk about a late night road trip!

Koehler was impressed by the boy saying: “I think there is a good teaching point here. With the way technology is... kids will learn how to do anything and everything. This kid learned how to drive on YouTube. He probably looked it up for five minutes and then said it was time to go,” he added.

Apparently, the police officer waited for complaints from residents about the damage the boy may have done with the car but he didn't "hit a single thing" which left the police officer in complete and utter awe.

The boy was upset when the police eventually arrived and he explained he stole his father's keys by standing on his tippy toes to grab them from the spot from which they hung because he really needed a cheeseburger. The children's version of Bonnie and Clyde eventually got their burger and chicken nuggets. According to Koehler it was not a case of neglect as they had eaten three meals that day but really needed that cheeseburger (lol!). No charges were pressed against the parents who had been sleeping at the time after being out all day in the sun.

I know it was risky but does anyone else think this kid's a bit of a hero? You never know when the munchies will strike.
