Amazon Are Creating Ireland's Answer To 'Making A Murderer'

Anyone with a Netflix account is addicted to murder mysteries like Making A Murderer and The Keepers and independent documentaries like The Jinx. In recent years podcasts have become the go-to whodunnit for fans of the true crime genre and Ireland is about to get its very own.

The new 13-part podcast series will be released by Amazon and focus on the murder of filmmaker Sophie Toscan du Plantier. The podcast will be called West Cork and will focus on the mystery of Sophie's murder in Schull, Co. Cork.

The podcast took three years to investigate, making it one of the most in-depth pieces in the genre, and will investigate the discovery of Sophie's body outside her holiday home, two days before Christmas, in 1996. The French filmmaker was beaten to death but, twenty years later, no one has been charged with her murder.

West Cork, much like Making A Murderer, will interview Sophie's family and friends, local witnesses, forensic experts and detectives who worked on the case. The chief suspect in the murder was local journalist Ian Bailey who has been arrested twice in connection with the killing. Bailey has always maintained his innocence and continues to engage in legal action against the Irish State. So far reviews of West Cork have been comparing the series to true crime podcast Serial.
