Niamh Horan Was On RTÉ Last Night Talking Absolute Hoop About Cheating

Why do men cheat? Why do women cheat, for that matter. RTÉ's Cutting Edge tried to deal with the issue last night, when Brendan O'Connor was joined by guests, Niamh Horan, Chris Donoghue and Vogue Williams.

The discussion around trust in a relationship sparked to life when Niamh revealed that years ago she 'probably' got involved with a lad she much preferred while she was still seeing someone else. She explained that she was obviously not happy in the relationship and the eventual situation undoubtedly happened because of that.

I wouldn't blame myself either, because I think that if girls cheat then there is obviously something wrong in that relationship. Guys can cheat because they want a bit of variety, let's be honest about it. Girls - there's something intrinsically wrong there.

Just take a look:

I think Vogue Williams' response sums up that viewpoint best.

It's simply wrong on so many levels. Where do I begin? How can you just fire out such laughable generalisations? So cheating men are nothing more than bored and sexually motivated but no cheating women are like that?

Their cheating is of a higher nature, hinting at something more deep ... Utter, sexist nonsense.

Make no mistake, whatever the motives, cheating is just plain wrong but that view is indicative of a culture where men are just seen as horny vessels, boldly going wherever their penis leads them. Is it any wonder men aren't great communicators? Sure all they think about is sex.

Later in the show, Horan and Williams clashed again about whether we are ignoring a rape culture in Ireland. Horan dismissed this rhetoric, saying that it is part of man-hating feminism which is 'Alienating a lot of men from the type of feminism that I would relate to, which is an equality of the sexes.'

A feminism where men and women are the same; apart from when it comes to their reasons for cheating.
