Maroon 5 Performance Labelled As "The Fyre Festival of Half Time Shows"

So every year when it comes to the Superbowl, there’s usually more talk of the half time performance than the game itself and it looks like this year is no different.

In what's now been labelled as “the worst Super Bowl performance of all time”, Maroon 5 took to the stage this year for 13 minute set of their hits. They were also joined on stage by Outkast’s Big Boi and Travis Scott and a brief surprise appearance from none other than Spongebob Squarepants. Following the performance, viewers took to Twitter to share their verdict. The general reaction towards the performance is that not even Spongebob or Adam Levine's torso could save it:

One Sports Journalist has even gone as far as labelling it as the “Fyre Festival of Half Time Shows”, it really doesn’t get any worse than that.

So here’s a quick recap on some of the most talked about half time shows performances and a nod to the best Super Bowl performance.

2004

In 2004, there was the famous nip slip incident when Janet Jackon and Justin Timberlake performed. During the performance of Timberlake's hit song “Rock Your Body”, Timberlake pulled Jackson's leather bustier to expose her breast at the closing line “Bet I’ll have you naked by the end of this song”. The complaints flooded in and they chalked it down to a “wardrobe malfunction”.

2012

In 2012 Madonna performed with guests LMFAO, Nicki Minaj, M.I.A and CeeLo Green. The biggest talking point of this performance was the Sri Lankan born singer M.I.A giving the finger to the American. The NFL demanded $1.5m in compensation for this incident which they labelled as “flagrant disregard for the values that form the cornerstone of the Super Bowl.” A settlement was eventually reached after a long legal battle.

Now for the best Superbowl performance of all time, sorry Beyonce, it had to be Prince performing “Purple Rain” in the rain.
