15 Beauty Hacks Every Student Should Know

We all know that being a girl can be a struggle at times, but throw being a student in on top of that and it's a recipe for disaster! Whether you're a budding makeup artist or need all the help you can get, these DIY beauty hacks are sure to benefit you no matter what. Even if your funds are low, or possibly nonexistent, here are some tips that will have you looking picture perfect every time no matter what.

1) Use baby powder as dry shampoo.

Ok so it's the morning after the night before, you have a 9 o' clock lecture and you still feel a bit tipsy and worse for wear. No time for a shower to wash the smell of drink, smoke and regret out of your hair. Baby powder is your savior here. Just sprinkle it into the roots of your hair and brush it through. It works just as well as dry shampoo and is oh so cheap.

2) Use sellotape for the perfect smokey eye.

The struggle to get the perfect smokey eye can be so real when you're in a rush to get ready for a night out. To make things easier, create a sharp line with some sellotape on your eye and do your eye makeup as normal. Then peel off the tape and you will have the perfect crisp line. The satisfaction of peeling the tape off is so good!

3) Highlight and contour like Kim K.

Instead of putting concealer under your eye in an oval shape, create an upside down triangle shape. This will help lift your face and make you seem wide awake (no matter how hungover or sleep deprived you may be). When it comes to contouring, many of us don't have a makeup artist on call. So when contouring, create the figure of '3' on your forehead, cheeks and jawline with a bronzer. You'll be looking flawless in no time at all.

4) Different uses for makeup items.

If your shopping budget is tight, buying various makeup items can seem impossible. Use your white shimmery eye shadows as a highlighter, bronzers make brilliant eye shadows especially in the crease, use mascara as eyeliner and cream blushes can double as lipsticks. If you find your eye shadow doesn't have the best color payoff, just wet your brush and then apply your shadow. BOOM pigmentation for days! Yay for broke students!

5) Use Vaseline to clean up makeup mistakes.

Pre-drinking and getting ready for a night out NEVER mix well together. Some black eye shadow here and a bit of messy winged eyeliner there. Suddenly you see panda eyes looking back at you. Not to worry, simply grab a cotton bud and some Vaseline and clean up the edges. Easy peasy and cheap as chips!

6) Also use Vaseline to make perfume last longer.

Once again, Vaseline comes to the rescue. If you find your perfume isn't smelling on point during the day, simply put some Vaseline on your wrists then spray your perfume of choice on top as fragrance clings to the Vaseline. This will have you smelling lovely all day long.

7) Save your dried up mascaras.

You paid €30 for a mascara and a few weeks later it has dried up. Ain't nobody got time for that. To revive your precious mascara, put the tube in a mug of hot water and it will be good as new in a matter of minutes. No one has time for crying when you're wearing a €30 mascara, after all.

8) Multiple uses of the toothbrush.

Everyone has one (well at least I hope so) and it is a beauty hack essential. A clean old toothbrush can be used to exfoliate your lips, clean dirty nails, backcomb hair and to groom wild brows and to keep your lips smooth. All hail the toothbrush.

9) The easy way to apply false lashes.

Fake eyelashes can be a horror to apply.  The glue goes everywhere and suddenly you're looking out of one eye. Not to worry, just cut the lash in three small pieces and apply each section individually. Perfect fluttery lashes every time. Thank me later for this one.

10) Tame those baby hairs.

Nobody likes baby hairs, it's not a cute look. So to solve this, spray your toothbrush with some hairspray and brush back. I know this will be a miracle worker for many... it sure was for me!

11) How to make your eyes appear larger.

After a few too many sleepless night of studying, drinking or whatever you're into, there's no escaping tired, dull eyes. To combat this, apply white or nude eyeliner to your waterline and you'll be looking wide awake in no time.

12) Get that Kylie Jenner pout.

No matter where you look, Kylie Jenner's mouth seems to be there. What I find best in achieving this look is to slightly overdraw your lips with a nude lip liner, then apply a matte lipstick.  This is when the magic happens. Apply a white eyeshadow in the middle of your lips and highlight your cupids bow. This creates the illusion of fuller more voluptuous lips. Then apply a translucent powder to make those babies last all day. No lip fillers needed.

13) Raw honey.

Late nights outs, eating junk food, sleepless nights studying or doing assignments can wreck havoc with our skin. Buy some honey and slather it on your face. Honey is brilliant for your skin. It helps fight acne and it makes your skin glow with many other health benefits. Plus it won't burn a hole in your pocket!

14) Use conditioner instead of shaving cream.

Buying shaving cream can be very expensive. When you think about it, you are literally pouring your money down the drain. So why not use an inexpensive hair conditioner instead? I find it is easier to shave my legs with a cheap conditioner, it leaves them feeling moisturized and softer hairs are easier to shave. Winning!

15) Lighten dark foundation.

The girl at the makeup counter matched you to your so called foundation color and you forked out €40 for it, only to get home and find it makes you look like a bottle of Fanta. To rectify this, mix the foundation in with your moisturizer and apply. Glowing, soft and flawless, what more could you ask for?
