Ireland's summer schedule is jam-packed with LOADS of gigs and festivals, from Oxegen and Electric Picnic, to Forbidden Fruit and Longitude. This week Emma Farragher gives you Part One of her Festival Fashion updates.
For those of you not in the know, the Coachella Music Festival, in a nutshell, is basically like the superman of music festivals. On bucket lists throughout the world, including my own, it features a diverse blend of renowned performers, emerging artists, and - in the recent years - fashion. What began in California in 1999 as an experiment when most of us where still writing upside down and eating crayons (don’t act like you never did) has blossomed into one of the most anticipated and attended annual music festivals in the world.
In addition to the choons and general artiness, the trends showcased at Coachella have become an increasingly popular and important focus of the festival. From hippie chic, to glamorous boho and hipster, the crowds at Coachella model styles that are as diverse as the music played and the personalities attracted.
For a style lover, creeping on Coachella pictures has to be the most satisfying procrastination from studying and assignment-ing and all that craic. I love Festival season because it gives way to the loss of style inhibitions and the birth of some serious ensembles (and some rather dodgy ones, but you’ll have that!) synonymous with improvising at times. Melting in your jeans? Cut ‘em. Lost your jacket? Make a poncho from a blanket (A nice blanket obvs, you’d look a bit dodge moshing with a duvet).
Anyway, with May having crept up on us out of nowhere – there’s a mighty stretch in the evenings- a summer of Oxegen, Indiependence, Electric Picnic et al beckons. If you feel like getting a little inspired, or you just want to procrastinate with me, grab yourself and cup of tea and take a sneaky peaky at what was hot at Coachella.
