Strong Not Skinny: Why Working Out Is Great For Your Body And Mind

Long gone is the trend for stick-thin limbs and gaunt faces. Nowadays it’s all about being strong, fit and functional. Pounding the treadmill for hours everyday and living on salad is not the way to a happy body and mind! Lifting and eating well (clean, as some like to say) is what's it's all about now. Strong is the new sexy for both guys and girls! So say goodbye to skinny and head on down to your local gym to kick your lazy ass into action. Here’s why working out and getting strong is great for your body AND mind:

1) You'll sleep so much better when you're working out, meaning your mind will be in a much better place.

Think about all those times when you've had a really terrible nights sleep. Think about how groggy, moody and basically just not together you felt the entire next day and now think about expending all of that excess energy in the gym and falling into a deep and fantastic sleep afterwards. Ahhhhh being well rested.

2) You'll have so much more energy when you regularly working out.

Regularly working up a sweat increases the flow of oxygen to your brain, making you more alert, more energetic and more capable of taking on the world. Forget collapsing on the couch when you're tired, get your runners on, get into the gym and feel the benefits immediately, no matter how much you don't want to.

3) Exercise is an amazing stress reliever.

We all get stressed out from time to time; It's human nature, it's just a part of who we are. Life can sometimes get on top of us, but the best way to put those problems back in their box is by working out and in turn, working away all of that stress. So run, punch a bag, spin, lift some weights, whatever helps, but know that you'll feel so much better afterwards.

4) You'll look so much healthier when you're working out.

With all of that already mentioned oxygen flowing by the bucket load to your brain, you’ll have a sharper memory and a longer attention span, not to mention you’ll be much more alert and capable of dealing with whatever emotions come your way!

When you’re busy working out you look and more importantly feel better about yourself and this impacts positively on your confidence. You feel stronger, ready for any challenge and able to take on the world. Be your best self!

9) And lastly, Feel Proud!

It doesn't matter how slow you go, you are still lapping everyone else sitting on the couch! Remember, even if takes longer than you thought, learn to enjoy the process. Fitness is a journey not a destination and getting up off your ass and going for it, is something to be proud of. Push forward and reap those rewards, we say.
