So I'm sure you're aware by now that there was a football match on last night, one in which Germany scored five goals in 18 astonishing first-half minutes on their way to a 7-1 semi-final mauling which left host nation Brazil standing around with their collective dicks in their hands... Not the circumstances in which we wanted to see that... 

As many as 35.6 million tweets were posted during the match, and the tweets-per-minute record was broken when Sami Khedira scored to make it 5-0 Germany. His 29th-minute goal saw the tweeting rate reach 580,166 posts per minute.

By the time the scoreline read 7-1 to the Germans at full time, social media was awash with comments and jokes about the record-breaking loss...
