The Best Universities In Ireland And The World Have Been Revealed

It's that time again when everyone compares their worth to the type of university they may or may not be a part of. You'll faintly hear in the distance by those which we will not speak of: "My university is one of the best universities in the world!". Bah humbug!

The Times recently released the best secondary schools in Ireland and now The Times Higher Education has announced the best universities across the globe for 2018. In order to find out which universities are the greatest, The Times took into account areas such as the ratio of students to staff, the ratio of male to female students and the number of students undertaking PhDs.

The UK's Oxford University remains at the top of the pile for the second year in a row with the US having six universities make the top ten, making the US the country with the highest number of universities in the list. Europe's main university is now Zurich, with Brexit resulting in the nominal loss of the three top ten UK universities from the European list. Here is the full list of the top ten universities from around the world in 2018:

  1. University of Oxford
  2. University of Cambridge
  3. California Institute of Technology
  4.  Stanford University
  5. Massachusetts Institute of Technology
  6. Harvard University
  7. Princeton University
  8. Imperial College London
  9. University of Chicago
  10. ETH Zurich – Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich

The top ten were chosen from thousands of universities around the world with the entire list only ranking the top 1,000. Seven of Ireland's universities made the list and here's how they ranked:

  • Trinity College (ranked 117th)
  • The National University Of Ireland Galway (ranked between 201 -250)
