Here's Where You Can Hopefully Watch The Northern Lights In Ireland Tonight

It could be a very romantic date night tonight as reports have emerged that Aurora Borealis may be visible in parts of Ireland tonight.

Astronomy Ireland posted on their Facebook page:

If (the) aurora is as big as predictions, you don't have to go to Donegal. You should be able to see it from a dark location, preferably northwest of any urban lights. Let your eyes adjust and don't forget camera captures more light than your eyes on a longer exposure so will look even better.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the phenomenon,  the Aurora Borealis is a natural electrical occurance characterised by the appearance of streamers of reddish or greenish light in the sky. The effect is caused by the interaction of charged particles from the sun with atoms in the upper atmosphere. You learn something new every day.

So there you have it. There are reports that the sky may be too cloudy to see the phenomenon, but in the event that they are not visible College Times knows one place you will be able to watch them. This video below.
