Gardaí Are Warning Public Of New Email Scam Involving Your Bank Details

Gardaí release warning of an email scam that is circulating peoples email accounts. The "phishing" message, designed to steal your personal details, requests you to click a link to authorise or decline a payment from godaddy.com.  The email is fraudulent and must not be opened or responded to. Here's a post from the An Garda Síochána Facebook page:

In a Facebook post on the An Garda Síochána page, they've warned that banks will never send emails asking you to divulge your security passwords or codes:

An Garda Síochána have become aware of a number of incidents where members of the public have been requested on line to provide their personal and banking details. These are attempts to defraud people and we again urge the public to protect their personal and bank details, once obtained fraudster can access your funds. Banks DO NOT and WILL NOT send emails asking you to divulge your security passwords or codes.

An Garda Síochána offered the following recommendations for people who may receive an email:

  • Do not open the email
  • Delete the email
  • Report any suspicious activity on your account immediately to your bank.
  •  If you are calling your bank by phone, use the phone number on your bank card and not the one shown on a bogus web page.
  • If you have been a victim of such a crime then report it immediately to your local Garda Station.
