Royal Baby Name Will Be Revealed Today, There's Good Odds On Martin

On Monday Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced the arrival of a baby boy via the Sussex Royal Instagram page. The statement said:

We are pleased to announce that Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed their firstborn child in the early morning on May 6th, 2019. Their Royal Highnesses’ son weighs 7lbs. 3oz.

With the announcement still fresh, betting sites, like Betfair, are taking bets on what the baby's name will be. Here are some of the Royal baby name odds:

Alexander- 7/2

James- 4/1

Francis- 25/1

Henry- 25/1

Martin- 25/1

There are also a lot of current pop culture references that have made the list as rank outsiders. With a nod to the Avengers Endgame, now the second highest grossing film of all time, Thanos and Thor have odds of 500/1. The biggest talking point at the moment Game of Thrones has also been a source of inspiration with Euron, Joffrey and Aegon all in at 500/1. Should the royal couple decide to call the new addition to the family Genghis, the odd are also 500/1.

The tradition for the royal family is to take the names for their children from other royals who have gone before them. The front runner Alexander has a history steeped in royalty. Alexander, which has Greek origins and loosely means ‘Defender of the people’, an apt name for a baby that is already richer and more successful than we can ever dream to be. Another front contender is Spencer which would pay homage to Prince Harry's late mother Diana, Princess of Wales, whose maiden name is Spencer.

There's still time to place your bets, but you won't have long to wait for the grand reveal. The royal couple will announce the new arrivals name today. Will it be Alexander, Spencer or Martin?

The wait is over and the bookies are way off.  Welcome to the world, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.
