Students Driving Home Today Watch Out For Checkpoints On These Roads

National Slow Down Day is upon us and as part of the campaign Gards will be out in force carrying out speeding checkpoints throughout the country.

An Garda Síochána posted on their official Facebook page asking drivers to watch their speed on the road:

National "Slow Down” Day 20th – 21st October 2017

An Garda Síochána will conduct a national speed enforcement operation "Slow Down”, supported by the Road Safety Authority and other stakeholders, for a 24 hour period from 07.00hrs on Friday 20th October to 07.00hrs on Saturday 21st October 2017.

The objective is to reduce the number of speed related collisions, save lives and reduce injuries on our roads. The aim of "Slow Down day” is to remind drivers of the dangers of speeding, increase compliance with speed limits and act as a deterrent to driving at excessive or inappropriate speed.

The Gardai have published a list of roads that will be monitored as part of the campaign:

The penalty for speeding is 3 penalty points and an €80 euro fine, if paid within 28 days so any students heading home to mammy might want to take the foot off the gas this time.
