It's been discussed for generations now but we could be closer than ever to having a united Ireland after Brexit. And today a huge new deal is being sought by the Republic to help the transition of Northern Ireland into the EU if they unite with us.
It's a big ask but the uncertainty of the UK after Brexit has put this pretty sensitive subject back on the table, for reals. The potential for a united Ireland has looked more likely and Ireland is trying to seal the deal with the EU so NI can have the same rights they have now.
The Irish Times reports government sources have said March deadline Brexit talks need to include a future Border poll i.e. should Northern Ireland remain in the UK or join Ireland?
Apparently officials are using East Germany as an example after they automatically joined the EU in 1990 after the Berlin wall was destroyed.
There's also a v. important part of the Belfast Agreement that says the UK secretary of state for Northern Ireland can call for a vote if it appears likely a majority of people in the North want Irish unity.

In a Belfast Telegraph poll of over 50,000 people earlier this year, 69% said they'd vote for a united Ireland if there was a referendum.
It'll be interesting no matter what goes down.
