The 12 Best Ways To Kill Time On Your Train Ride To College

The majority of us are guilty of wasting time as we sit back and relax on the train. If you're not daydreaming, you're listening to a sad song - pretending to be in Adele's latest music video as you watch the city and countryside float past- and worrying about those readings you never finished for class today. Take this time to start your day off right, catch up on what matters and gell all the satisfaction you need from your morning commute into college:

1. Check out the local talent

We all have that one friend who manages to meet the most random strangers on a train. Whether you're looking for a bit of eye candy or someone to have the chats with, a train fling can do you wonders. If you're the shy type then it might be best to stuck to your phone and answer those Whatsapp messages that have been sitting unanswered on your phone.

2. Find a synopsis of your class readings

Panicking about not doing those 50-page readings? Flip and reverse your destiny and avoid any awkward conversations with your professor by Googling the best synopsis you can find. This way you can answer any minor questions. Who has time to read 50 pages about a theory that you don't fully understand?

3. Avoid reading that synopsis by catching up on the latest murder mystery podcast

Sometimes it's nice to catch up with your favourite murder mysteries from the comfort of your headphones.

4. Do those bits and bobs you constantly put to one side

Check your online banking, catch up with Mammy, organise how you're going to pay for those overpriced college books and, g'wan, flick through that latest Asos sale - treat yo'self!

5. Be Glam

If you're anything like us you're probably running out of the house at the last minute. Use your train journey to pop on that makeup, sheet mask, hair gel or eat that breakfast on the go and feel fabulous when you step off that train.

6. Save time by working out on the move

No, we're not talking about swinging on those yellow poles-  although they would make the perfect cardio workout. Why not use your space to do some stretches, marching your feet or  just stand up. Every bit helps.

7. Catch up on your latest Netflix obsession

Whether it's Stranger Things, Black Mirror or The Crown, don't miss out. Spoilers are everywhere and you need to be in the know. Sure there's even wifi on the train!

8. Make a Spotify playlist

Everyone needs a commuter playlist. Suggested tracks include Five's 'Keep On Movin', Bill Weathers 'Lovely Day', Kanye West 'Good Morning' and Beyoncé's 'Flawless' 'cause that's you baby.

9. Learn that hobby you've been putting off

Why not listen to Irish Oscar nominee Saoirse Ronan pronounce her name and practice for yourself. Afterall, it's now one of the most popular baby names in the world. If you're not a fan, why not try learning a new language by downloading an easy to use an app like Duolingo or learn Irish place names - the voice on the train will quiz you on every stop!

10. Avoid that person you hooked up with in Coppers last week by staring out the window

Save yourself the inevitable cringe and take in the gorgeous views outside your carriage instead. Take in the stunning views of the country and cityscape and never look back.

11. Start a social media clear out

Block any unwanted bystanders to those food pics you like to share or that person you met once in a toilet and promised to be best friends for life.  Add some new ones (See point number one).

12. Sleep

The smooth bumpy free ride of a train means that your early morning commute can be the perfect antidote to your sleep deprived state. Find yourself a portable cushion and oversized scarf and make yourself at home, at least until you arrive at your destination.
