The Final Year Fear: 10 Ways To Keep Calm

For some, the beginning of this year involves more than another semester in College. This is your final semester in College. Take it from me. This is the last time in your life when you'll be able to get horrifically drunk, take as many drugs as you want and not get dressed if you don't feel like it. Of course these activities still last after college, but now you have to go to work, or feel guilty about not being in work. So however shit you feel during finals, toughen up and rid yourself of the final year fear. Think about how you want to remember your college years and enjoy every minute....

1) Take a break

However hard you feel you need to study, you MUST take breaks. You will work far faster and more efficiently if you know you have a break to work towards.

2) Talk to your mates

In college you have to remember that most of your friends also don't have a fucking clue what to do with their lives. Talking about it together will calm you down and make you feel less confused. Some of your friends may have some killer ideas of career choices for you.

3) Exercise

If like me you can't be fucked to run ten miles every day, then go for a walk or join a yoga class. You don't have to kill yourself while exercising. The most important thing is that you're getting out of your hole of a dorm room. Exercise also releases endorphins, so it'll take your mind off things and keep your sprits up.

4) Eat Well

The food you eat when you're preparing for this semester is crucial to your performance. Obviously you don't have to cut out all shitty foods, but try and add as much fruit and veg to your days as is possible. You'll feel less sleepy and lazy and more energetic. Shit food makes you feel shit, so keep it to your days off.

5) Meditate

You don't have to be a raging hippie to meditate. Go on to YouTube and listen to a guided meditation for five minutes. It'll help you control your breathing and chill you the fuck out. Five minute breaks like this can really keep you chilled all day.

6) Nights Out

You must continue to act as a normal college student to enjoy these last months of freedom. Get a group of friends together and have a massive night out once every week or fortnight. You can then look forward to this and it'll keep you sane.

7) Get a Hobby

Whether it's Yoga, 5-a-side or Netflix, get into something. It'll help break up the weeks and if the event is organised by college, it can be a social event also. Any excuse to not sit worrying about what the fuck you're going to do with your life.

8) Get Organised Now

It may seem like ages away, but finals are the sneakiest of exams and will creep up on you quicker than you think. Start going to more lectures and asking lecturers for extra shit to make your life way less stressful.

9) Career Plan

Unless you want to be a lawyer or a doctor, there is no chance you will know exactly what you want to do with your life. Trust me, no one else does either. The most important thing is to try out as many different careers as possible and see which one works for you. The career you first get into may not be what you end up doing in the future. So try and take things as they come, but with a basic plan of how to get on the career ladder.

10) Don't Worry Yourself

Everyone worries when they're in their final semester of College that they haven't partied enough, done enough work or you're just fucking worried about your life. Take it from me, it'll be fine. Things may not work out how you planned, but you will look back in a year and be amazed by how far you've come.
